MTHFR Providers
MTHFR Kids does not guarantee the quality or reputation of the providers you may find as a result of the content on this page. You must perform thorough research when selecting a healthcare provider, and by using this site, you acknowledge this is your sole and full responsibility.
What types of doctors are knowledgeable about MTHFR?
Naturopaths
Integrative Physicians
Functional Medicine Practitioners
Some chiropractors and nurse practitioners
Do they accept insurance?
Some do and some do not. Inquire with both the practitioner and your insurance carrier. Prices can be incredibly steep (I know from experience), so make sure you do your homework!
I can’t find anyone in my area!
Many providers offer distance appointments over phone or computer. Inquire with the practitioner.
What about my mainstream pediatrician?
Maybe! Your regular MD/pediatrician will likely be able to order the MTHFR blood test (make sure to ask to include both of the most common variants — 677 and 1298), but may not be the best at understanding the clinical implications or treating concerns you may have. It just depends on the doc… you can always ask.
A Note About Geneticists
Generally speaking, geneticists are not advocates in the area of MTHFR. Many have found them to be dismissive and a waste of time and money unless there is a specific genetic condition other than MTHFR they have been referred out for and are consulting with.
